Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson reminds residents that tomorrow is the Food Aid Day Breakfast and Barbeque at Ottawa City Hall’s Marion Dewar Plaza from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Food Aid Day is celebrating its tenth year in raising funds to buy and process beef from local farmers to help the Ottawa Food Bank feed those in need. Food Aid Day was co-founded by the Ottawa Food Bank and CFRA – which also broadcasts the Food Aid Day Radiothon.
Last year, the Food Aid Day event and the CFRA radiothon raised $160,000.
The event kicks off with a $5-pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m., supplied by Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm. The Food Aid barbeque lunch, hosted by The Works, is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A $10-ticket will get participants a burger, a bag of chips, and a drink.
The Mayor’s Rural Expo will also be taking place and features live music, entertainment, celebrity cow-milking contests, and displays that feature many businesses, festivals and artisans from Ottawa’s rural communities. The expo booths will be located at Marion Dewar Plaza and inside City Hall between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
If you cannot attend the event, you still help by making a $10 donation to the Ottawa Food Bank on your mobile device by texting “BEEF” at 45678. See more details at mobilegiving.ca. Also, you can tune into 580 CFRA Food Aid Day Radiothon.
