The flags flew at half mast Friday at La Cité collégiale to honour one of its graduates who was shot dead in Moncton along with two other RCMP officers.

A two-minute period of silence was observed at the college on Thursday night during a graduation ceremony to honour Const. Dave Ross.

La Cité collégiale president Lise Bourgeois offered her condolences to Ross’s family in a statement released by the college on Friday. Ross was married with a young son and another child due in September who will never know his father.

Ross, a dog handler with the Codiac RCMP, graduated from La Cité’s police foundations program in 2007.

“Mr. Ross was an exemplary and model student and received his diploma with honors in 2007,” Bourgeois said in the statement. “Our prayers and thoughts are also with the wounded officers who are recovering following this horrible tragedy in Moncton.”

On Friday, Moncton was no longer in lockdown after the more than 24-hour manhunt for the alleged gunman ended with the arrest of Justin Bourque, 24.
