Five people were forced from a house at 236 Donald St. on Sunday following a late-night fire. Firefighters were called to a two-storey, three-unit house at about 9:30 p.m. to deal with a fire that started in the first floor living room area. No one was injured, but damage was estimated at $300,000 to the building and $150,000 to contents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Earlier Sunday night, a basement fire caused an estimated $300,ooo in damage to a Saxony Crescent home. Ottawa firefighters were called to 1676 Saxony Cres. at about 6:3o p.m. They found a fire in the basement that they were able to quickly contain, but the house suffered extensive smoke damage. There were no injuries, although two adults were forced to vacate. Victim assistance was provided. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
