The sprawling free street party that is Westfest invades Richmond Road this weekend, and with it comes a chance to see one of Canada’s hottest bands: A Tribe Called Red, the eclectic Ottawa group that mixes electronica, pow-wow rhythms and a dash of hip hop. They are headliners at the festival Sunday June 15 at the main stage behind the Loblaws Super Store at 290 Richmond Rd. It’s the band’s only appearance in Ottawa this summer. Other Ottawa bands, including Good2Go, Last Supper, Fevers, Pony Girl, Matthew James Weiler and DJ Lakes Distrikt, perform earlier Sunday. The festival starts Friday with blues night, featuring headliner George Leach, and Maria Hawkins, River City Junction, Smoke Wagon Blues Band and DJ Lakes Distrikt in earlier sets. Saturday music highlights include headliner Ashley MacIsaac, The Sons of Scotland, The Peptides, Shawnee, Brock Zeman and Tam-Tam with Dr. Lee. And off the mainstage you’ll find everything from bouncy castles for kids to dancers, buskers, and sidewalk sales. Information: westfest.ca
