A Gatineau police officer has been suspended and is under investigation by the Sûreté du Québec for “an event of a criminal nature.”
Gatineau police said Thursday they had received a complaint about the officer concerning an event that had occurred several years ago.
“Any criminal allegation against a police officer or employee of the SPVG is taken very seriously, and leads to measures aimed at protecting the integrity of any criminal and administrative investigations under way,” Gatineau police chief Mario Harel said in a statement. “For this reason, we decided to relieve the officer of his duties,”
After learning about the allegation, Quebec’s minister of public security assigned the criminal investigation to the SQ. At the same time, Gatineau police ordered an investigation by its own professional standards and internal affairs division.
The officer, who worked in the patrol division, has not been charged. His name has not been released.
