Ottawa – Ottawa residents will have an easier time keeping cool this summer, thanks to a new bus route announced today at Petrie Island by Mayor Jim Watson, Orléans Councillor Bob Monette and Councillor Shad Qadri, Vice Chair of the Transit Commission.
Route 198 will take riders from Place D’Orléans to Petrie Island, by way of Trim Station, every weekend and holiday between Saturday, June 21 and Monday, September 1, 2014. Route 198 will depart from Place d’Orléans every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The last trip from Petrie Island will depart at 6:42 p.m.
“Today’s announcement is another step forward in our City’s investment in transit services,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “The addition of this bus route will boost service to a popular summer destination for the residents of Ottawa.”
“Petrie Island beach is an important asset to the City of Ottawa’s recreational needs and Orléans residents are proud to have it here in their backyard,” said Councillor Monette. “Any initiative that makes it easier for people to enjoy the Ottawa River and Petrie Island is a good idea.”
“The implementation of this new bus service is a key example of the positive work that OC Transpo and the City of Ottawa are doing to provide excellent customer service,” said Councillor Qadri. “I am so happy that we are introducing this service on the first day that lifeguards are officially on duty this summer.”
In addition to the new Petrie Island service, OC Transpo also provides summer weekend service to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, as well as year-round service to many popular tourist attractions and recreational destinations across our city.
