Highway 417 Downtown Weekend Closure

Details

• Highway 417 will be fully closed in both directions for the Lees Avenue Bridge removal.
• Highway 417 will be closed to eastbound traffic from Metcalfe Street to the Vanier Parkway.
• Highway 417 will be closed to westbound traffic from Vanier Parkway to Nicholas Street.
• The closures will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday June 21.
• At 11 a.m. on Sunday June 22 a single lane will open in both directions.
• All lanes in both directions will be reopened by 5 a.m. Monday June 23.

Impact

• Detours may create significant delays.

Mitigation

• This weekend, the Highway 417 will not be a shortcut. Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes and avoid the highway if at all possible.
• There are many festivals occurring across the city, as well as other special events. Plan ahead. For motorists travelling to events downtown, leave early to avoid delays. .
• Consider other options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
• The City of Ottawa is working in a coordinated fashion. Other construction activities will be lighter this weekend to accommodate extra traffic on arterial roads.
• The City will be monitoring traffic and will adjust accordingly, including traffic light synchronization as well as sharing alternate routes throughout the road closures. Parking will also be removed at busy arterial roads along the detour route to accommodate extra traffic.
• OC Transpo has made adjustments to weekend routes to accommodate the closure.
• Motorists are reminded to watch out for emergency vehicles. If you hear a siren, please pull over to the side of the road and allow them to pass.
