A 23-year-old driver died after crashing his vehicle during a race at the Cornwall Motor Speedway Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed.

Danny Lefebvre, from St-Louis De Gonzague, Que., east of Cornwall, was driving in a race at the speedway when his vehicle struck a cement barrier just after 8:15 p.m.

He was transported to hospital and pronounced dead. An examination of the body is being scheduled, police said.

The OPP’s Forensic Identification Services Unit and the Ministry of Labour were investigating Monday along with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry detachment of the OPP.

The crash Sunday came a month after another man, 57-year-old Wesley Wallin, was killed at the Capital City Speedway in Ottawa.

Wallin suffered a heart attack while driving in the last race of the evening May 22. His car crashed following the heart attack, but track officials said at the time they didn’t believe the crash itself caused his death.
