Two senior paramedics seriously injured last week in a training accident have been discharged from hospital and are expected to return to duty soon.
Supt. Craig MacInnes and Paramedic Reid Purdy were injured in an explosion during a training exercise with Ottawa police and the RCMP on June 18. The two suffered burns when a practice charge detonated during a mock hostage rescue at an abandoned house on March Road.
Two police officers and one other paramedic were also injured in the mishap, which is being investigated by the Ontario Ministry of Labour and the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
“The outpouring of support from the community for our injured paramedics has been truly overwhelming.” Ottawa Paramedic Service Chief Anthony Di Monte said in a news release Friday afternoon.
The two paramedics are continuing to receive treatment and the paramedic service has asked that they be allowed to recover in private.
