Police laid more than 1100 charges against Ottawa and Gatineau motorists in May

Police laid 1,120 charges in May in a crackdown on motorcyclists, unsafe vehicles and heavy trucks, according to Gatineau and Ottawa police’s traffic enforcement program, STEP.

Police said there were 38 charges relating to motorcycle safety and 1,082 relating to unsafe vehicles and heavy trucks in Ottawa. In Gatineau, there were six charges relating to motorcycle safety and 40 relating to unsafe vehicles.

The traffic initiative also involves the RCMP, Sûreté du Québec and Military Police.
