Ottawa police pulled over more than 130 cyclists last week in a two-day blitz on unsafe bicycling.

The bike safety campaign took place in high-density biking areas such as the ByWard Market, downtown core, Vanier, Centretown and Hintonburg on June 26 and 27.

Police issued 14 tickets for rules of the road violations and two tickets for equipment violations. Even more cyclists got a stern talking to, with 124 warnings given for rules of the road violations and 36 warnings for equipment violations.

“The safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians is a priority for the Ottawa Police Service and this campaign was an opportunity to educate and conduct enforcement,” Ottawa police Staff Sgt. Atallah Sadaka said in a news release.
