Ottawa Public Health issued a heat warning on Monday as the nation’s capital geared up for Canada Day.
The warning for Monday and Tuesday was issued since the humidex was forecast to exceed 40 C for two consecutive days.
Ottawa Public Health says extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death.
To avoid some of the affects of extreme heat, Ottawa Public Health says residents should drink plenty of water, limit or avoid caffeine and alcohol, avoid strenuous physical activity outdoors and spend at least two hours a day in an air conditioned location.
