The finance committee approved a plan Thursday to swap some city owned land in Orléans to preserve a 70-year-old silo.
The Vinette silo was placed on the heritage register in 2011. Since then, the city and heritage advocates have been trying to figure out how to preserve it, while also reducing graffiti and litter on the site.
City staff recommended a land swap for the silo land at 241 Centrum Blvd., which is currently owned by Hillside Vista Inc., part of the Phoenix Homes subdivision development company.
In exchange, the city will give up less than an acre of its land on St. Joseph Boulevard, near Tenth Line Road.
The decision still needs council approval.
