Increased police patrols. More security cameras. Better street lighting.

These were some ideas put forward at a public meeting held in the Herongate neighbourhood Thursday night to address residents’ concerns about increased gun violence.

Ottawa South MPP John Fraser and members of the police guns and gangs unit took part in the meeting.

Police said the public should not change their behaviour despite recent crimes but encouraged people to call in tips if they see anything suspicious.

Less than three weeks ago a 22-year-old man was shot in the forehead on Cedarwood Drive near Herongate Mall. The man survived but would not co-operate with police. The incident is thought to be gang-related.
