Charitable ball hockey players are hoping to beat last year’s record for Ottawa Food Bank donations at this year’s Five Hole for Food event on Sparks Street Wednesday.

Last year 9,250 pounds of canned food and other non-perishable items was collected in Ottawa. Participants brought 5,719 pounds of donations to the game in 2012.

Anyone can participate in the massive street hockey game if they bring a donation. Oh, you’ll need a hockey stick, too.

The game’s on from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday on Sparks Street between O’Connor and Bank Streets.

The Five Hole for Food organization, founded in 2010, is touring across Canada, with 13 stops. They started in St. John’s, Newfoundland July 2 and finish in Vancouver July 19.
