Ottawa-Carleton District School Board trustee John Shea will be giving up his seat to pursue other interests, according to a letter he submitted to the board’s chair last week.
Shea, who represents Orléans-Cumberland, said he would not to seek re-election in the fall and he has decided not to complete his term of office, which was expected to last until Nov. 30.
He was elected to the position in 2006 and served two terms as an elected trustee following his stint as a student trustee. Katie Holtzhauer, who represents the neighbouring Innes/Beacon Hill-Cyrville area, is expected to field questions from residents in Shea’s zone in the meantime.
“He has been a mentor to our student trustees and a role model for developing citizenship in our youth. It has been my pleasure to work with him,” said Jennifer Adams, the board’s director of education, in a statement.
