Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of accused terrorist Misbahuddin Ahmed.

Court was notified at about 1:30 p.m. Friday that a verdict had been reached, and lawyers and the media have been summoned to the courtroom.

The verdict came after two days of deliberation at the end of a two-month trial.

Ahmed, a 30-year-old former Ottawa Hospital diagnostic imaging technician, has pleaded not guilty to three terrorism-related offences: conspiring to facilitate a terrorist activity, participating in the activities of a terrorist group, and possession of an explosive device.

The first two offences carry potential sentences of 14 years and 10 years respectively. A conviction for possessing an explosive device carries a sentence of life imprisonment.

The charges against Ahmed and two alleged co-conspirators emerged from a massive top-secret security operation dubbed Project Samossa during which the young Muslim men were placed under close surveillance, with their homes, cars, phones and computer communications all monitored for at least seven months.
