Ethan Lavictoire, the 11-year-old Ottawa boy at the centre of the Love 4 Ethan fundraiser campaign, emerged from brain surgery Tuesday and ‘is doing great,’ according to his father, Todd.

Ethan underwent surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto to treat a slow-growing lesion that has attacked the language centre of his brain, causing lifelong migraine headaches.

“He is out! He is doing great! The doctors even told us we should be very proud,” Todd wrote in a Facebook post just minutes after the surgery.

He added a photo taken in the operating room.

“From the very near to around the country and the globe, from family to friends, to those that walk in the light with us, Ethan was in all of our hearts today,” the Facebook post read.

“He is out! He is doing great! The doctor even told us we should be very proud … For an 11 year old boy, he was exceptional and so calm and brave (of course he was)

“I am overjoyed and holding back tears that I’m sure will flow freely when I see him in ICU.

“Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

“Amanda and I will be basking in an emotional glow while we wait to see our little lion.”

Following the surgery, Ethan will be monitored to guard against swelling of the brain during the healing process. If all goes well, Ethan will only remain in hospital for four days after the surgery, be on bed rest for two weeks and then on reduced activity for another six weeks.
