Canadian designer Sarah Richardson is at it again.

Host of multiple home makeover shows on HGTV, including Room Service and Design Inc., the Toronto-based powerhouse has her own fabric line with Kravet Collections, was recently named home design director for Good Housekeeping magazine and will publish her first book, Sarah Style: An Inspiring Room by Room Guide to Designing Your Perfect Home (Simon & Schuster Canada) this fall.

If that’s not enough, the busy mother of two has now partnered with Hallmark Canada on a new collection of greeting cards, stationery and gift wrap that’s as colourful and lively as her home designs.

“The approach of the collection was to create something that was quietly sophisticated. I’ve taken some of my absolutely favourite patterns and then re-coloured them or even just used small pattern details from the different fabrics and applied them to the cards and stationery,” says the award-winning designer, who is among Canada’s Top 40 under 40.

“There are lots of different colours because I love colour and I think the goal of the collection was to be able to deliver my signature approach to colour, pattern and design in a way that is accessible to everyone,” she says.

Prices for the Sarah Richardson Collection, which is available at 150 Hallmark Gold Crown stores across Canada, start at $1.99.

Despite living in a digital world where communicating through texting and mass emails is mainstream, Richardson insists nothing “can ever replace the authenticity or the personal investment in a handwritten note.”

“As a designer, I’m focused on the importance of the tactile experiences we have in our day-to-day life, so ‘touch and feel’ plays a huge role in everything I design,” she says, adding, “Sending a handwritten note is a thoughtful way to connect with someone. It’s also a reflection of personal style and expression.”
