A group of about three dozen people laid flowers and said prayers for the 298 dead passengers and crew on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 outside the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Saturday.

Led by three priests, the group sang and remembered the victims during the vigil. Many held candles and single carnations.

They were joined by Inna Prystaiko, the wife of the Ukrainian ambassador, and her two sons who laid flowers.

Others held signs, including one that read “Holland, our hearts grieve with you.”

“It is important that all of the countries that had family or friends who passed away on the Malaysian Air flight know that the Ukranian community internationally walk with them and we do not condone the using of missiles to drop civilian airplanes in Ukranian airspace,” said organizer Natalyia Romas.

The group then walked to the Russian Embassy to join a protest against that nation’s invasion into Crimea and their support for militias in the eastern parts of Ukraine.

The passenger jet was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lampur when it was shot down Thursday afternoon. The plane had been flying over an area of eastern Ukraine close to the Russian border that has been the site of fighting between Ukranian troops and pro-Russia insurgents.

The dead include 80 children, including infants. There were citizens from 13 different countries aboard the flight, but the majority were from the Netherlands. The dead included a large contingent of HIV/AIDS researchers, vacationers and Ontario student Andrei Anghel, 24.
