Six people have been forced from their home after an apartment balcony caught fire Friday afternoon.

Fire crews were dispatched to the highrise at 2850 Cedarwood Drive off Walkley Road shortly after 3 p.m. They said flames were spotted on the fourth floor of the building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire that appeared to have started near the air conditioner in the window.

A mother and her three children were napping at the time of the fire. All of them escaped uninjured. The Salvation Army and the Red Cross were helping the family.

An investigator was called to the scene. Damages are estimated between $10,000 and $15,000, but the cause of the fire is still unknown.
