Twenty-one people in Kingston have been arrested and about 10 ounces of various drugs — cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamines and marijuana — seized following a “covert” operation involving the Ottawa and Kingston police forces.

The arrests and drug seizures — which police said were worth about $16,500 on the street — concluded a four-month operation in which undercover officers infiltrated the operations of Kingston-area residents suspected of street-level drug dealing, the Kingston police said in a statement Monday.

“This investigation and the resulting arrests will have a direct impact on the downtown core (of Kingston),” the department said, noting that the Ottawa Police street crime unit was involved in the investigation and the arrests, which took place between July 23 and 25.

“Using covert tactics, the joint forces operation identified and infiltrated local targets suspected of trafficking in illegal narcotics.”

Those arrested face a variety of criminal charges, including trafficking in controlled substances, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and breaches of recognizance and probation.

Beside the drugs, police also seized $2,000 in cash.
