Ottawa – Construction continues on Laurier Avenue, between Elgin Street and Cumberland Street, to allow for the expansion of the east-west bikeway. Work is scheduled to be completed in mid-to-late August.
The work involves removing and replacing the catch basins, curbs and sidewalks adjacent to the Laurier eastbound lanes, between Elgin Street and the City Hall garage entrance. Pedestrians will have to use alternate sidewalk during the construction period.
Once the construction is completed, a raised asphalt bike lane will take the place of the sidewalk in this location. As well, a raised concrete pedestrian crossing will be constructed at Queen Elizabeth Driveway ramp at the Laurier Avenue eastbound lanes.
During this construction period, the contractor will also be installing paving stones on Laurier Avenue at the Tabaret Hall pedestrian crossing and at the Cumberland Avenue intersection.
Construction will take place during the day, with lane closures occurring in off-peak hours. Some night work is possible, but no detours are planned. Cycling and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction period.
Access will also be maintained to City Hall (110 Laurier Avenue West), the Ottawa Courthouse and all University of Ottawa buildings.
The east-west bikeway expansion is an Ottawa on the Move project. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
