Ottawa firefighters doused basement fire at a house on Forest Street, near Carling Avenue, late Monday.
The fire department was called to 804 Forest St. about 9:30 p.m. and found the basement of a two-storey duplex in flames. The main body of the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes.
Firefighters then searched the rest of the house floor by floor looking for occupants. None were found.
As of 1o p.m., there was no indication of cause or estimate of damage. Firefighters reported heavy smoke damage to the unit next door, saying it was “no longer livable.”
A fire investigator was called to the scene.
