Police are searching for two girls who went missing Monday night near Calabogie, after playing a game of hide-and-seek.

Renfrew Ontario Provincial Police officers spent the night looking for the girls, ages nine and 10.

Police, who responded to the call at around 10 p.m., say the girls didn’t return after their game. They were staying at a camping area on Airds Lake Road in the township of Greater Madawaska.

Police said general exposure to the elements is a concern but the overnight temperature likely wasn’t a problem.

“It’s a very heavily wooded area so the bugs would have been very bad overnight I’d imagine,” said Janice Sawbridge, a community service officer in Renfrew. “It hasn’t rained overnight so that’s a good thing

On Tuesday morning, the OPP added a helicopter to its night search party, which included a canine unit, an emergency response team and patrol officers.

This is the area around Aird Lake. The girls were last spotted near Aird Lake Road, which is to the north of the lake. (Note: this not a representation of the OPP’s search area).

Those with information should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
