Ottawa – The Richcraft Sensplex in Ottawa’s east-end is now open – providing increased ice time for residents living in this growing community.
The facility, located at 813 Shefford Road, is a four-pad ice surface complex, which includes a refurbished JB Potvin Arena. Other amenities featured in the complex include concessions, a pro-shop, a soft seating area with a fireplace, meeting rooms and a licenced bar and grill.
“This exceptional facility will certainly be a community hub for east-end residents,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “It is also good news economically for the east-end, as this new facility has the capacity to host events and tournaments that may not have been possible in the past.”
The $26-million complex is owned and operated by the Ottawa Community Ice Partners (OCIP) – a non-profit organization that consists of board members that represent Senators Sports and Entertainment, Morley Hoppner, Ottawa Senators Alumni, and community members.
“This partnership agreement allows the City to purchase 2,227 hours of prime ice time each year, which will be resold to the community at the City ice rental rates,” said Councillor Mark Taylor, Chair of the Community and Protective Services Committee. “This meets the growing demand for ice time for the many pee-wee and minor hockey leagues and teams in Ottawa’s east-end.”
“The opening of the Richcraft Sensplex is important to Eugene, the Senators and for this community,” said Cyril Leeder, President of Senators Sports & Entertainment. “This new complex exemplifies our long-term commitment of giving back to the region by building skating facilities that will benefit all Ottawa residents and their families, but most importantly, our youth.”
Richcraft Homes teamed up with OCIP to help the sponsor this new facility.
“We are proud to have developed residential homes that enhance the lives of many Ottawa families,” said Kris Singhal, President of Richcraft Homes. “Our sponsorship of this Sensplex and the Kanata Recreation Centre furthers our commitment to contribute to the quality of life in these communities.”
“The Richcraft Sensplex is an exciting addition to the Beacon-Hill Cyrville community,” said Ward Councillor Tim Tierney. “The state-of-the-art facility will be enjoyed by the many young hockey players and skaters from this community and across the entire city.”
