Twitter was full of shock and worries over doughnut resources as residents of Richmond shared news that their beloved bakery, a staple on Perth Street for many decades, closed suddenly on Saturday.
A handwritten sign appeared in the bakery window Saturday morning saying: “Sorry, closed! Thank-you all, for all your support over the years!, Joe”
It’s the end of an era (well, several eras, really) as the Richmond Bakery closes it doors. Not many people remember a Richmond without it.

Johannes Kunert has owned the bakery for over 30 years, though it has been offering baked goods since 1939. It was well-known for its old-fashioned doughnuts, fresh bread and chelsea buns.
