Ottawa – Beginning Wednesday, August 13, Cumberland Street will be closed between Besserer Street and Rideau Street for approximately 4 weeks. Lane reductions will also occur on Cumberland Street between Rideau Street and George Street.
Transit services will not be affected and pedestrian access will be maintained. Local businesses will remain open.
This closure is necessary to construct intersection modifications at Cumberland Street and Rideau Street as a component of the Rideau Street Renewal Project. The Rideau Street Renewal – Phase I project is a $15.6 million initiative that will improve streetscaping and safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
This project will also replace the existing combined sewer system with independent storm and sanitary sewers in support of the Ottawa River Action Plan, our city’s commitment to protect the health of the Ottawa River and provide cleaner water, safer beaches and a better environment.
