Monday, Aug. 18


The 3rd Arboretum Music Festival is back and bigger than ever featuring six days of 30 artists in 12 different venues, plus chefs doing a foodie thing, videos and fun talks. (Do not worry, there is still two days of outdoor concerts.) It begins with a panel discussion of “Why I Left Ottawa” launch party, 6:30 p.m., at Arts Court. Then see Adam Saikaley Trio perform an acoustic version of Beastie Boys’ Ill Communication, 9:30 p.m., Manx Pub. Passes: all-week for $50. v




All are welcome to join 613CC, Ottawa’s Casual open choir, as they performs Get Lucky and Smells like Teen Spirit, 7 p.m., Clocktower Brew Pub, 418 richmond Rd. $5

The Carleton University Art Gallery is hosting an opening reception with the artist David Kaarsemaker for his exhibit Pictures, 5 p.m., St. Patrick’s Building. The exhibit runs to Sept. 7. cuag.carleton.ca

Tuesday, Aug. 19


This is the second to last free, outdoor Hatha yoga session, open to all levels, on the lawn of the Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. from noon to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Some yoga mats are available, but best to bring your own. For other free activities, visit ottawa.ca

Then grab some wholesale-priced fruits and vegetables at the Good Food Market, located under the blue tents at City Hall, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The schedule and locations are available at gfmottawa.ca

Wednesday, Aug. 20


There are only two more days left to see the Ceremonial Guard Relief of Sentries ceremony at Rideau Hall (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the hour ), and three more to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony on Parliament Hill (10 a.m.).

The Billings Estate celebrates Archeology Month with special hands-on activities — this includes digging — a their historic museum every Wednesday in August, 1 to 3 p.m. .

Thursday, Aug. 21


About 10,000 people are expected at the People’s Social Forum, where activists of all sorts will trade ideas after an Algonquin sunrise opening ceremony and celebratory march, until Aug. 24, University of Ottawa. Tickets: $35/$20 students. Register at peoplessocialforum.org
