About 40 riders revved up at the Cartier Square Drill Hall Tuesday morning, the starting point of the Canadian Military Police National Motorcycle Relay Ride (MPNMRR).

This is a coast-to-cast motorcycle event, the longest annual relay ride in the world, with groups travelling more than a total of 10,000 kilometres across Canada. The ride has rised over $200,000 for children’s charities over the past five years.

This year, they are raising money for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children.

The ride began on Aug. 3 in Victoria, B.C., and will end on Aug. 25 in Gander, Nfld.

Riders from the Canadian Military Police National Motorcycle Relay Ride departed from Cartier Square Drill Hall early in Ottawa, August 19, 2014.

The motorcycle relay began on Aug. 3 in Victoria, B.C., and will end in Gander, Nfld. on Aug. 25.

There are 23 legs of the relay ride; most riders participate in one portion while a rare few sign on to ride the entire 10,000 kilometres across Canada.

The portion of the ride from Ottawa to Valcartier base in Shannon, QC. started at 8:30 a.m.

This is the sixth year of the Canadian Military Police National Motorcycle Relay Ride (MPNMRR), which raises money for children’s charities.
