To celebrate the “topping off” of the tallest of the condominiums at Lansdowne Park and local caterer Grill’s Master’s 20th anniversary, a 4,000-kilogram, bright-red food truck was hoisted up 21 storeys early Tuesday morning.
“It’s not unusual for a builder to host a rooftop party for its workers when a building is complete,” said Grill Master’s CEO, Roger Pattison in a release about the event. “But this will be taking our catering to a new level.”
The party was held at noon for Minto Development’s staff and construction crew, who have finished pouring all the concrete for the roof.
“Topping off is a construction term, it means we hit the roof,” said Minto spokesperson Lloyd Kilgore. “It is a milestone in any construction project and it is usually celebrated with a BBQ — on the ground — with hamburgers and hot dogs.

The Grill Master 4,000 kilogram truck is lifted slowly up the side of the new Minto condo at Lansdowne Park.
“But because of the prestige of this building and its location we wanted to do something a little different. So we decided to take it up to the roof and have a real topping off party, with chicken and ribs.”
Happily, no one fell off the roof at the party, which hosted over 300 people. “Everyone had to wear hard hats, safety boots and goggles,” said Kilgore. There were also guard rails around the edges to keep everyone intact.
“It’s a spectacular view from up here.”

Over 300 people at the “toping off” party lunch at non on Tuesday — on the roof of the 21-storey condo.

There is still a lot of work to be done to the condominium, the tallest at Lansdowne Park, before it is habitable.
