Ottawa – John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South, joined Mayor Jim Watson and Gloucester-Southgate Councillor Diane Deans today to officially open the new Hunt Club Road extension from Hawthorne Road to Highway 417 and the new interchange at Highway 417.
Ten lane kilometers of new roadway, including eight sets of bridge and ramp structures and a new highway interchange will provide commuters with greater flexibility while significantly reducing congestion at the Walkley Road and Hawthorne Road intersection and the Walkley Road/Highway 417 interchange.
“The Province of Ontario is proud to partner with the City of Ottawa to deliver this vital new transportation link,” said John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South. “This project is an excellent example of how we are working with municipalities to invest in infrastructure that will improve quality of life in our communities and promote our economy.”
“Across the city we are begin to see the fruits of our unprecedented investment in infrastructure growth and renewal,” said Mayor Watson. “Today the Hunt Club Road Extension and Interchange join Lansdowne Park, the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge and the resurfacing of a major portion of Carling Avenue on the growing list of completed works that are setting the stage for our future growth and prosperity.”
The Hunt Club Road Extension and Interchange are a $58 million initiative. $22 million was provided by the Province of Ontario to fund the new Highway 417 interchange. The rest of the funding was provided through Ottawa on the Move. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
