Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of the Ottawa area, including Richmond and Metcalfe, on Thursday evening. One hundred mm of rain has fallen over a portion of central Lanark County with up to 50 mm more on the way before the downpour weakens.
Earlier Thursday, meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm producing strong wind gusts, quarter- to toonie-sized hail and heavy rain, as well as the risk of a tornado in the area of Lanark County and Smiths Falls.
They warn that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads, as well as localized flooding in low-lying areas.
