The Miracle League of Ottawa fell short of winning Kraft Celebration Tour’s $100,000 grand prize in their push to build an accessible baseball diamond and playground at Notre-Dame-des-Champs Park in Orléans.

The inspiration for the project came from 11-year-old Bryce Desrochers, who was born with cerebral palsy, is determined to play baseball just like any other kid. As one of the 10 finalists, they will receive at least $25,000 for their efforts.

The project is expected to continue despite the setback.

The Miracle League of Ottawa has raised more than $700,000 and they hope to reach their goal of $1 million by Christmas.

David Gourlay, president of the Miracle League of Ottawa tweeted Monday following the announcement that the Barrhead Curling Club in Alberta would be taking home the contest’s top prize.

We are so proud of the support we had #KCT – thank you for the passion behind @MiracleLgueOtt and our project #OTTNEWS
