Police released a video Wednesday in hopes of identifying a man who is believed to be responsible for two violent bank robberies this month.
They said that on Aug. 12, the suspect arrived at the bank on 200 block of Centrepointe Drive holding an umbrella over his head to apparently shield his face.
He then pulled out a handgun, pointed it at a bank employee, demanded cash and jumped onto the counter and demanded more money. No were injuries reported.
The suspect was wearing a white hard hat, a reflective safety vest, sunglasses, running shoes, a pink shirt and plaid pyjama pants.
He is described as a man with a dark complexion, between five feet six inches to five feet eight inches, roughly 200 pounds with a stocky build, a moustache or a goatee and longish hair.
In the other incident, on Aug. 5, a man wearing a handkerchief over his face entered a bank in the 900 block of Carling Avenue.
He approached a bank employee and demanded money, then threatened other employees. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported.
The Ottawa police robbery unit is operating under the premise that the two robberies are related.
