Ontario Children and Youth Services Minister Tracy MacCharles says the province will invest $400,000 a year into the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre to reduce wait times and improve services for children with special needs.
MacCharles made the announcement on Wednesday in Sudbury.
“Our government has heard from families that wait-lists for services cause a great deal of stress and frustration. This is why we are taking action to reduce wait times so that young people get the vital supports they need.” said John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South.
The centre serves nearly 4,000 children a year. The province also plans to invest $5 million a year to expand physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech-language therapy for 2,000 children in Ontario, and $1.25 million to help children’s treatment centres reduce wait-lists for assessments.
Last year, the province’s 20 children’s treatment centres provided service to about 70,000 children.
