OTTAWA – The City of Ottawa announced today that it will welcome a Sens RINK (Recreational Investments in Neighbourhood for Kids) Project in the spring of 2015 as part of its redevelopment of Laroche Park.

With the support of the Ottawa Senators Foundation and Trinity Development Foundation, the City is pleased to announce the planned construction of this facility in another one of Ottawa’s growing communities.

“I wish to thank the Senators Foundation for supporting yet another community rink that will help us offer recreational opportunities that Ottawa families always need,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “As we’ve seen with the other Sens RINK projects, I know this new location at Laroche Park will help bring the community together in having fun.”

“I have been delighted to work with these great organisations to help local residents in these communities to benefit from a Sens RINK,” said Kitchissippi Councillor Katherine Hobbs. “This new facility will help Mechanicsville and Hintonburg flourish, as they keep attracting more and more young families.”

Located between the Ottawa River and the communities of Mechanicsville, Hintonburg and West Centretown, the Sens RINK at Laroche Park will provide access to recreational programs and activities for hundreds of children and youth. Managed by the City of Ottawa, the Sens RINK Project’s recreational spaces will offer free year-round sporting programs and will serve as a social hub for local families.

“The Ottawa Senators Foundation believes that all children should have access to physical activity and social development,” said Daniellle Robinson, president and CEO, Ottawa Senators Foundation. “The Sens RINK projects are year-round recreational facilities that give kids in our community the opportunity to play, learn and have fun.”

“We wish to bring to this area of the city a rink that families and kids will cherish for decades to come, as this dynamic community continues to thrive,” said Trinity Development’s John Ruddy. “The Sens RINK project is a natural fit with this neighbourhood and we are proud to make this happen today.”

The Ottawa Senators Foundation has committed to building 20 outdoor rinks in neighbourhoods in Ottawa, Gatineau and the surrounding regions. The construction of the Sens RINK at Laroche Park will be the fourth – in Ottawa alone – of the 20 rink commitment, following the opening of the Rink of Dreams at Marion Dewar Plaza, and the Sens RINK projects at Jules Morin Park and Bayshore Park.
