A bottom-of-the-ninth donation of $210,000 by the Toronto Blue Jays’ charitable arm, the Jays Care Foundation, has brought Ottawa’s Miracle League within hailing distance of its $1-million target to build a “Field of Dreams” for disabled ballplayers.
“We now have pledges of $935,000 and it’s very exciting for all of us who have worked very hard for the past two years to make this dream a reality,” said David Gourlay, the President of the Miracle League of Ottawa.
Over the past year, the Miracle League of Ottawa has expanded the scope of the project to include a renovation of the existing field house at Notre-Dame-des-Champs Park in Orléans to build accessible washrooms.
The gift from Jays Care Foundation means that in total the Miracle League needs to raise an additional $386,000 to complete the baseball field, playground and field house with accessible washrooms.
The City of Ottawa is matching donations to the Miracle League of Ottawa dollar for dollar.
