There was lots to feast on last night for close watchers of #ottpoli.
While the six candidates vying for Rideau-Vanier squared off at a transportation debate, Jim Watson was across town, throwing his support behind a new central library (HT to my colleague Joanne Chianello, who has been keenly watching — and writing about — developments on the library front).
Not surprisingly, outgoing Somerset Coun. Diane Holmes spoke favourably about a new central branch when I caught up to her after the final environment committee of this term of council.
Here’s what Holmes had to say:
“The downtown library has been a long time coming. Our downtown library is a disgrace — it’s tiny and inaccessible and very constrained, so a new, big downtown library would be really welcomed by all the residents of the urban area.”
Remains to be seen whether current or future councillors agree.
