Police hand out 2,735 tickets in August traffic campaign

Police departments on both sides of the Ottawa River handed out a total of 2,735 charges against road users in August’s ‘Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)’ campaign.

Gatineau police outdid their Ottawa counterparts with a total of 1,478 charges, including 1,408 for speeding and 70 for pedestrian safety. In Ottawa, there were 1,236 speeding charges and 21 involving pedestrian safety.

Also participating in the capital region program were RCMP, the OPP, Surete´ du Que´bec, and DND military police.
