A woman is dead and a man in custody after an apparent domestic dispute in Arnprior Thursday afternoon.
The Ontario Provincial Police released little information about the matter beyond saying that a woman had been taken to hospital where she died of her injuries and that a man had been arrested.
Officers with the Renfrew detachment sealed off a section of Charles Street between Daniel Street South and Isabella Street as they began their investigation.
They’d been called to the scene at about 2:40 p.m. in response to reports that a woman had been run down by a man in a truck.
At the site Thursday evening, police were still gathering evidence, including articles of clothing that were strewn on the road. They paid particular attention to a Ford half-ton truck with Alberta licence plates parked on one side of Charles Street facing Daniel Street, according to an area resident who works nearby.
Tejaf Batel said that while he hadn’t witnessed the incident himself, others who live in the area described the victim as an “older woman.” After police arrived, they found a man at the scene. He was soon handcuffed and led away.
Charles Street is mainly composed of residential homes. It intersects with Daniel Street South, a largely commercial strip lined in the immediate area by motels, real estate agencies and a used car lot.
