EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY--SETTLEMENT WORKER
· Full time position (one year contract)
· 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm)
· $43,000 per year
The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre is a community-based organization funded by different levels of government to provide support to immigrants and refugees in the City of Ottawa since its inception in 1975.
We are looking for a settlement worker to assist Chinese-speaking immigrants in the following areas:
1. Answer inquiries on community and government services and programs
2. Conduct needs assessment and make appropriate referrals
3. Assist clients in accessing needed social, legal and health services
4. Provide short-term counselling support for clients with legal, immigration interpersonal or mental health issues
The settlement worker reports to the Manager of Client Services Department
Qualifications:
1. University degree in social sciences, preferably in counselling, social work or psychology
2. Previous experience working with newcomers and Chinese immigrants
3. Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills
4. Fluency in English, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) is essential
5. Has a valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
