Incumbent Tim Tierney handily defeated challengers Francesca D’Ambrosio, Nicolas Séguin and Michel Tardif in Beacon Hill-Cyrville ward suggesting voters are happy with his efforts to help steer the city’s light rail transit line to Blair Road and help secure the Richcraft Sensplex.
He garnered about 85 per cent of the vote compared to about four per cent for each rival.
Tierney, a longtime community activist, became something of a workhorse during his first term, serving on the transportation and planning committees and the transit commission. Transportation issues are hugely important in this ward in which commuting is part of the lifestyle.
Tierney ran on a seemingly contradictory platform of fiscal responsibility and spending on transportation. He stressed that solving commuting bottlenecks is the key to opening up the east end ward to more development. The new Blair Road transitway station should open in 2018, when Tierney hopes to be well on his way towards establishing a political dynasty.
