Incumbent Keith Egli was handed a second term on city council Monday by voters in the Knoxdale-Merivale ward, which is facing a number of growth-related headaches.

Egli easily defeated lone challenger Cristian Lambiri to capture Ward 9, but there are several pressing issues for his residents, such as future development on Merivale Road and traffic woes in various neighbourhoods.

Egli is hoping his second term on council will see phase two of the LRT funded because it would go to Baseline station, near his ward.

“That is the major transit hub for a good part of my ward. If we can get LRT out there, that’s going to be a huge benefit,” he said.

Knoxdale-Merivale, population of about 38,000, features a mix of established and newer communities, with a growing number of people moving into Barrhaven and Riverside South.

Residents complain of speeding cars and blocked streets from the mounting number of vehicles. Egli has proposed a “traffic open house” with police, city staff and community members in 2015 to help fix the problem.
