It may have been one of the closest races of the night, but the result was the same in 2010 as Bay ward incumbent Mark Taylor eked out a win over former councillor Alex Cullen.
“You can always count on the west to be wild,” Taylor said after Cullen conceded defeated.
It was a tough loss for Cullen, who also ran unsuccessfully for the NDP in June’s Ontario election. Speaking to the Citizen, the former councillor indicated that he was preparing to leave elected politics for good.
“(It) seems to me it’s time to turn the page,” he said.
Taylor’s victory is likely to be welcomed by Mayor Jim Watson. Taylor worked for Watson before joining Ottawa’s high-tech sector, and Watson, who lives in the ward, said he voted for Taylor in advance polling earlier this month.
Watson also seemed to relish going after Cullen on Twitter about topics ranging from transit to election campaign donations during the race.
