Half the residents of a rooming house near Churchill and Carling avenues were displaced by a fire early Saturday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services said smoke was visible from an upstairs unit in the two-storey, semi-detached, multi-unit house at 290 Currell Ave. when they arrived at 1:45 a.m. Firefighters had the fire under control just after 2 a.m.
Eight adult residents of the 16 who live in the rooming house were unable to return home over night, though some might be able to do so later Saturday.
One person was treated by paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries. Damage was estimated at $20,000.
An investigation continues to determine the cause of the fire.
