A man killed in a one-car crash near Kemptville was an engineering professor at the University of Ottawa, the school confirmed Tuesday.
Ivan Stojmenovic, 57, died Monday morning when his Honda Accord struck an overpass, flipped over and caught fire at the Dilworth Road exit on Highway 416. Fellow drivers put out the fire, righted the car and pulled Stojmenovic from the wreck but were unable to revive him, Ottawa paramedics said.
U of O spokeswoman Caroline Milliard said Stojmenovic received his PhD in mathematics in Croatia in 1985 and taught in more than a half-dozen countries over his career. He specialized in wireless networks, cloud computing, computer security and cyber-physical systems.
Stojmenovic was married and had two children. Milliard offered the university’s condolences to his family.
