A “significant” snowfall could hit the Upper Gatineau beginning Friday, warns a special weather statement issued Tuesday by Environment Canada.

The statement warns that a low pressure system from the U.S. midwest could bring “significant amounts of snow” for regions north of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, including Upper Gatineau, centred in the Maniwaki region, and the Pontiac.

The statement cautioned that “a lot of uncertainty” remains about the form of precipitation, whether it will be rain or snow in different regions, but said strong winds “are definitely expected.”

There are currently no weather warnings for Ottawa or the City of Gatineau.
