Police are investigating after two poppy donation boxes were stolen in Quinte West, a regional municipality of more than 40,000 people near Belleville.
A business in downtown Trenton, Quinte West’s major urban area, called Ontario Provincial Police at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to report the theft of a poppy box. A police investigation revealed that a second poppy box had also been stolen from another business nearby, according to an OPP press release.
Police do not know how much money was in the stolen boxes.
Police believe the same suspects are responsible for both thefts. The suspects are described as a white male with a medium build and short brown hair, and a white female with bleached blonde hair in her late 40’s. At the time of the theft, the man was wearing jeans and a red jacket, the woman had a blue-and-black jacket, jeans and high heels.
The OPP are continuing to investigate. Any person with information on the crimes can contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
