Ontario Provincial Police officers who attend Remembrance Day ceremonies have been ordered to appear in work uniform and not ceremonial dress uniforms, even if off-duty.

OPP work uniforms include bullet-proof vests and side arms.

The directive to officers was confirmed by Kristine Rae, a spokeswoman for the OPP, early Thursday.

Off-duty officer typically attend Remembrance Day ceremonies in ceremonial dress uniforms.

However, the Parliament Hill shooting on Oct. 22 has prompted the force to revisit its policies in order to ensure the safety of its officers.

On Oct. 22, Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was shot and killed while standing guard at the National War Memorial in downtown Ottawa.

He was not wearing a bulletproof vest and he was unarmed at the time of the attack.
